Job Description: Family Law Paralegal
Position Overview:
The Family Law Paralegal will provide comprehensive legal support to attorneys specializing in family law. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Family Law Paralegal will be responsible for assisting with case management, drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, and communicating with clients. This position requires a solid understanding of family law and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost professionalism.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist attorneys in preparing, organizing, and maintaining case files, legal documents, and correspondence related to family law matters.
2. Conduct legal research on various family law issues, such as child custody, divorce, spousal support, and property division.
3. Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, petitions, and discovery requests.
4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date calendars, deadlines, and case management systems to ensure timely completion of tasks and adherence to court deadlines.
5. Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel regarding case status updates, scheduling, and document exchange.
6. Coordinate and assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and mediation sessions by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and other necessary materials.
7. Attend court hearings, depositions, and client meetings as required, providing support to attorneys during proceedings.
8. Assist attorneys in the preparation of settlement agreements, parenting plans, and other legal documents related to family law matters.
9. Collaborate with other paralegals and legal staff to ensure efficient workflow and effective communication within the legal team.
10. Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to ethical standards of the legal profession.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or related field is preferred.
2. A minimum of 3 years of experience working as a paralegal in family law or a related area.
3. In-depth knowledge of family law principles, procedures, and relevant statutes.
4. Proficient in conducting legal research using online databases and other legal resources.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
6. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
7. Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
8. Proficient in using legal case management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
10. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and external parties.
